Our Story
The Amsterdam Tulip Museum was founded to share the extraordinary story of the tulip and its deep connection to Dutch history and culture.
Located along Amsterdam’s historic Prinsengracht canal, directly opposite the Anne Frank House, the museum offers visitors a chance to discover how one small flower became a symbol of beauty, trade, and national identity.
The museum was established by passionate tulip specialists and enthusiasts from the bulb-growing region of Noord-Holland. Their aim was to create a place where the fascinating story of the tulip — from its origins to its role in shaping the Netherlands — could be told clearly, visually, and accessibly to an international audience.

Our Mission
The mission of the Amsterdam Tulip Museum is to preserve and present the history of the tulip in all its dimensions — botanical, cultural, and economic.
Through exhibitions, education, and storytelling, the museum helps visitors understand how the tulip became a lasting part of Dutch life and identity.
Our goal is not only to celebrate the flower’s past, but also to encourage appreciation for its continued influence on design, art, and horticulture today.

The Experience
A visit to the museum offers a journey through 400 years of tulip history.
Authentic objects, historical documents, films, and interactive elements bring to life the story of the tulip’s arrival in the Netherlands and its remarkable rise during the Dutch Golden Age.
Each room explores a different chapter — from early cultivation and the world’s first financial bubble, known as Tulipmania, to the global tulip trade that still thrives today.
The museum’s design combines historical depth with clear presentation, making the story engaging for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

Connecting Past and Present
The Amsterdam Tulip Museum bridges history and modern-day craftsmanship.
Through collaborations with contemporary tulip growers, historians, and designers, the museum highlights the tulip’s ongoing importance in Dutch culture and international horticulture.
Visitors can continue their experience in the museum shop, located next to the main exhibition.
Here, you’ll find a carefully curated selection of tulip-inspired gifts, Dutch souvenirs, books, and art prints — as well as a wide variety of flower bulbs, including seasonal tulip and daffodil bulbs grown in the Netherlands.
The shop reflects the same passion for quality and authenticity that defines the museum itself: every product connects back to the tulip’s rich heritage and the craftsmanship of Dutch growers.
